Breaking News: Car Drives into Crowd at Christmas Market in Magdeburg

A car has crashed into a crowd at a Christmas market in the eastern German city of Magdeburg, resulting in at least two fatalities and injuring more than 50 people.

Regional governor Reiner Haseloff confirmed that among the deceased is a small child. The suspected driver, a doctor from Saudi Arabia working in Saxony-Anhalt, is believed to have carried out the act deliberately. Authorities have stated that he was not previously known to them as an Islamic extremist, according to reports from dpa citing unnamed security officials.

Videos circulating on social media show the chaotic scene following the incident, with multiple individuals wounded.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed his condolences on X, stating, “My thoughts are with the victims and their relatives. We stand beside them and beside the people of Magdeburg.”
