Ghana's ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, has officially conceded defeat in the recent presidential election. During a press conference on Sunday, Bawumia expressed his respect for the will of the people, stating, "The people of Ghana have spoken, the people have voted for change at this time and we respect it with all humility."
In a confirmation of the concession, opposition leader John Mahama took to his X account to acknowledge the congratulatory call from Bawumia. The Vice President noted that Mahama had won the presidency "decisively," alongside the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) securing a victory in the parliamentary elections, as indicated by the NPP's internal vote tally.
